Ice Monitor Information




What do ice monitors do?

  • Ice monitors are present in the announcer's booth during club ice times.
  • Ice monitors check in skaters and keep track of the number of ice sessions used.
  • ​Ice monitors rotate through the skaters to play their program music.
  • Ice monitors watch the ice and skaters to promote safety and prevent accidents.

​Benefits of Monitoring:

  • You get to know the skaters and coaches in the club.
  • For every 4 sessions of ice time monitored, you receive a voucher for 1 session of free club ice time. Vouchers never expire and can be used even in future seasons.

Requirements to become an ice monitor:

  1. If you are  interested in becoming an ice monitor, please contact the Board at board.skatingsmylife@gmail.com.
  2. Concussion Training
  3. SkateSafe Certification​

    • Free and valid for one year (365 days from completion)
    • ​The training consists of three, 30-minute courses. You can start and stop the training at any time. If you stop at any point prior to completion, you will return at the same place where you left off. Each course consists of a pre-test, videos, learning scenarios and a final test that those required to take the training must pass.
    • ​Steps to complete:
      • ​Sign in to USFSA account or create a new account
      • ​Click on the U.S. Figure Skating SkateSafe icon.
      • ​If your compliance is not complete, follow the prompts in the red bar to complete the training on the U.S. Center for SafeSport website.
      • Please note that it can take up to 48 hours to display updated compliance status information regarding the SafeSport training.
  4. Background Check Completion

    • ​​$31 and valid for 2 USFSA membership years (year begins on July 1st). Must be renewed every 2 years.
    • You will be required to validate your information before being sent to the National Center for Safety Initiatives in a new window.  Payment is collected before you begin the background check. You will need to have your Social Security Number, past addresses and driver's license available.
    • ​Steps to complete:
      • ​Sign in to USFSA account or create a new account
      • ​Click on the U.S. Figure Skating SkateSafe icon.
      • ​If your compliance is not complete, follow the prompts in the red bar to complete the background check.
      • Please note that it can take 2-3 hours to show as in progress but can take 7-10 business days for final resolution for the Background check.
